We are not natives.
Let's start off honest and bold. We are not Washington, North Carolina natives. We are not even Eastern North Carolina natives. Neither of us were born and raised in NC. If we met you'd probably figure that out by our complete lack of a southern accent ...and grace! Or perhaps when we try our best to blend in with a "y'all" or my favorite "yes, ma'am" but sound nothing like the locals.
But in case you've never met us, although we wish we had, we did not grow up here. Our children will be able to say they grew up here, but that's another story for another day. I have a lot to say about that. Full disclosure: we are originally from way out west. We are transplants. And all the more reason we are able to guide you in this process.
Why Work with Us?
So then... if we aren't Washington natives, what gives us the ability to share with you about Washington and represent you buying, selling, or investing in real estate here? The answer is why we do what we do... our "why."
We live here, we love it here, we found our dream lifestyle here. We are much like you. You're probably moving to a new place you don't know much about or find yourself considering it. You want to know if the town looks like the pictures (yes, it does, but even better in person).
You need someone who not only lives here but has been through the process.

How We Ended Up Here...
Years ago we were searching for the right place to call home. North Carolina was number one on our list but the state is huge! Where to start? Our initial impetus for the move was lower cost of living, our fascination with the southern porch, and a slower pace of life, among many other reasons. We started in the Raleigh area, lived in Wake Forest for a few years, and eventually made it to the small town of Washington, North Carolina.
When we started our search we were very far away from where we would eventually end up one day. So, how did we get across the Country to find our new perfect home? Well, in our SUV with a senior dog, a toddler and a car full... plus lots of bravery and a good sense of humor. But also... exceptional Realtors. [Thank you, Megan, Justin, and Laura!]
You need a guide, a support system, and a local resource you can trust - and one that's been in your shoes. And that's why we formed Leonard Real Estate with a focus on introducing people to Washington, North Carolina. While our search started with a short list of needs and wants, our expectations have been exceeded with the actual lifestyle we live in this beautiful town. We want to share that with you: all the things we've learned and continue to learn daily.
A Life Changing Decision
We absolutely 1000% LOVE IT HERE. We are crazy about this place. We feel honored and blessed to raise our kids here! Back when John and I met, and later were married, we dreamed of building a simple life, where the living is (easy, yes, but also...) well lived. What does it mean to enjoy a simple life, well lived? I consider this sorta odd statement my mantra, my oath, my rally cry.
Simple doesn't mean you're giving up something. Simple is truly living.
Simple is not stifling.
Simple is … a breath of fresh air.
Simple is not bland.
Simple is… seeing colors with clarity.
Simple is not boring.
Simple is …taking time to appreciate.
Simple is not cheap.
Simple is wealth where it matters.
Simple is not holding you back.
Simple is …life well lived.
