If you haven't read the previous blog "Why Work With Us?" you may not know why we want to share our beautiful town of Washington, North Carolina with others. Read on to learn more!

Why Washington?

We relocated here years ago from across the country with a car full, a senior dog, and a toddler. While that was fun (yikes!), it was so worth it. We absolutely 1000% LOVE IT HERE. We are crazy about this place. We feel honored and blessed to raise our kids here! Back when John and I met, and later were married, we dreamed of building a simple life, where the living is (easy, yes, but also...) well lived. What does it mean to enjoy a simple life, well lived? I consider this abstract statement my mantra, oath, and rally cry. It's why I do... what I do.

Simple doesn't mean you're giving up something. Simple is truly living.

Simple is not stifling.

Simple is … a breath of fresh air.

Simple is not bland.

Simple is… seeing colors with clarity.

Simple is not boring.

Simple is …taking time to appreciate.

Simple is not cheap.

Simple is wealth where it matters.

Simple is not holding you back.

Simple is …life well lived.

For a while now, there have been trends and "hacks" (tips & tricks) promising to keep your life simple. But with all the pressures of society and the increasing pace of life, what would it mean to you to truly live EVERY DAY in a slow paced, low pressure, EASY breezy beautiful town? Let me tell you....I know, because we did it.

Living in Washington gives you the freedom to engage in activities that you deserve -- that your family deserves. Living in Washington helps you achieve this goal. Simple but abundant.

When I say "deserve"... I don't mean"entitled."

Deserve like ... the essence of your being deserves the honor and integrity of slowing down.

You were not made for busy. You were made for joy, peace, beauty and slooooowing down!

Living in Washington means you:

  • Stroll along the Washington waterfront by riverwalk, boardwalk, neighborhoods, or Main Street. You say hi and smile to both friends and strangers. (They won't be strangers long).

  • Sit on one of the many benches to people watch, read a book you got from Pamlico Books, or enjoy a special treat.... perhaps an ice cream from Scoops, a smoothie from River Vibes (pictured), or an old fashioned soda from Main Cup. There's so many great restaurants and shops along our historic Main Street, Market Street, and surrounding side streets.

  • Take a kayak or paddleboard out on the serene Pamlico River. You breathe in the slightly salty/slightly fresh river (that's brackish waters) and slow your rhythm. (P.S. River Vibes does recreational rentals from their private dock in front of the Estuarium!) You enjoy the striking colorful sunset that seems to change by the minute.

  • Get lost in the scenic trails of Goose Creek State Park, gazing up at the tall trees and explore the sights and sounds the magnificent natural surroundings of Eastern Carolina.

  • Hop from bourbon bar to brewery to wine bar with your Social District cup as you stroll Main Street to shop, marvel at the architecture, and pass by the Historic Turnage Theatre. You make plans to see one of the shows listed on the chalkboard outside.

  • Learn something new at the North Carolina Estuarium or observe the wildlife in the natural preserves from the Boardwalk at Moss Landing Marina. Name a turtle while you're there. Our daughter named one "turtley" - yes like TURTLE - E. Very... unique, I know!

  • Watch your kids play soccer at Susie Gray McConnell Sports Complex to the backdrop of your sunset dreams. In the summer, you take them to the Splash Pad adjacent to the 7th Street Park and Bobby Andrews Recreation Center. Learn more about our incredible parks and recreation facilities.

Really though, the list goes on. And on...

For such a small town, we always say it's amazing how much there is to do. And, for a "retirement town" there is so much for families and kids. I'll have to do a separate blog post on each of these amazing places, businesses, restaurants, parks, recreation facilities, enrichment programs, and more. You'll get tired of all the sunset pictures I'll share with you. Oh, the sunsets. WOW. It's different and magnificent every night.
